Spanish organic olive oil: Mild, cold-pressed virgin oil

A good olive oil is among the most useful things you can have in the kitchen. It is used for dressings, for frying and baking, and as a flavourful finish on finished dishes. Here we look at ByLykke's Spanish olive oil, what makes it special, and how to use and store it best.

A mild, cold-pressed virgin oil

ByLykke Olive Oil is a cold-pressed Spanish virgin oil from Aloreña olives, a variety grown only in a small area north of Malaga. The pet name for these olives is "little apples", and they are also popular as table olives. The oil is mild and round in taste, without the sharp bitterness that some olive oils have. This makes it a versatile everyday oil that suits most dishes.

What do cold-pressed and virgin mean?

"Cold-pressed" means the oil is pressed without heat, so the taste and natural components are preserved as well as possible. "Virgin oil" (extra virgin) is oil from the first pressing of olives, the purest and most flavourful category.

Two sizes, the same oil

The oil is available in two sizes, so you can choose based on your consumption:

  • 1-litre bottle, for daily use in the kitchen
  • 5-litre tin, if you use a lot of oil or want to save on packaging

How to use it

The mild taste makes the oil suitable for everything from salad and dressings to frying at low to medium heat. It can also be used on bread, together with dairy products or as a spoonful in the morning. For very high heat, other fats are better suited.

How to store the oil best

  • Store dark and cool, away from direct sunlight
  • Keep the bottle or tin closed, so the oil does not go rancid
  • Use cold-pressed oil within a reasonable time after opening

Frequently asked questions

Yes, many use pure olive oil as a simple, moisturising care on, for example, dry hands or as a hair treatment.

Why are Aloreña olives special?
They are grown only in a small area north of Malaga and are known for a mild, round taste.
